Beauty:Beast, founded in 1990 by Takao Yamashita, is an underground Japanese label built on ethereal fairy tales and dreamlike fantasy. Yamashita presented his first collection in Osaka, Japan 1991, focusing on tropes of religion, inner conflict and radical expression. Rebelling against his father’s wishes, he continued to pursue a career in fashion for years to come, exploring other storytelling mediums like manga to convey his visions. The designer used unconventional themes like a reoccurring protagonist known as the “Dark Knight'', and his guide, “Think”, to illustrate a progressional universe under one label. By collaborating with fellow Japanese natives like Jun Takahashi of Undercover, Beauty:Beast has slowly risen from the depths of the Harajuku street scene, now regarded as an established Eastern label.

I personally have never seen this shirt before, and knew I had to get my hands on it for the page as soon as I’d seen it listed. With a gorgeous washed black fade, this tee features massive text across the chest, reading ‘You Suck’, in a comically simple font. Accompanied by floral detailing that intertwines around the back, this shirt is a size large and is in pristine overall condition with no flaws whatsoever.
