Issey Miyake

Issey Miyake’s brilliance in technical design remains some of the most influential work we’ve seen in the last half-century. Born in Hiroshima, Miyake studied graphic design at Tama Art University in Tokyo. Miyake would later move to Paris to pursue a career in fashion, eventually founding his own label, Miyake Design Studio in 1970. Pushing boundaries of functionality and techniques, Miyake’s innovation included pleating, origami folding, and computer-generated designs, all of which were some of the first of their kind. Recently passing away, it’s safe to say Miyake’s craft has left a massive impact on the industry and our current perception of fashion.
