Vlieger & Vandam was originally founded in 2004 by Carolien Vlieger and Hein van Dam. creating the first mock up for what would become the company’s signature product in 2002, the duo released ‘Guardian Angel’ handbags, with the embossment of a kitchen knife or gun leaving a clear imprint on the exterior of the leather. Marketing their own display ‘SAFE’ for Design Takes on Risk at MoMA in 2005, Vlieger & Vandam would go on to create many other iterations of their most iconic designs, adding further items such as handcuffs to the array of lifted detailings on their bags.
