AW2003 Junya Watanabe Patchwork Exposed Stitch Sweater
(FOR SALE) An Autumn Winter 2003 Junya Watanabe ‘Patchwork’ Exposed Stitch Distressed Sweater.
Junya Watanabe’s perennial career under the Comme Des Garcons overarching label has been nothing short of exceptional, spanning over three decades. Beginning as a pattern cutter for the Tricots Comme Des Garcons knitwear line, Kawakubo saw promise in Watanabe’s capabilities, where his creations flourished on the runway. Over the next few seasons, Junya Watanabe would continue to hone his abilities and by 1992 was heading his own womenswear namesake label. Junya Watanabe’s menswear line would go on to debut in the Spring of 2002, bringing forth the iconic “Poem” pieces. Cementing himself as a permanent, leading figure under the Comme Des Garcons umbrella, Watanabe continues to design to this day, pushing boundaries in both his mens and womenswear collections.
This incredible piece from Junya Watanabe’s Autumn Winter 2003 collection marks a pivotal point in Watanabe's early days at the helm of his brand, as it was one of the first true ‘grunge’ collections done under his own eponymous label. A theme that would carry on and bring forth the infamous AW2006 presentation, this show displayed Watanabe’s incredible versatility as a designer. Coming in a gorgeous washed brown and grey, this sweater features exposed stitching and patched together pieces of fabric to formulate this gashed hybrid sweater. With wool elbow patches on either sleeve, this piece is a size medium with a boxy wide cut fit. In pristine overall condition, here is the opportunity to purchase an iconic piece from Junya Watanabe’s infamous Autumn Winter 2003 presentation.
